Travel to Phu Yen – Phu Yen has been and is becoming a tourist destination that attracts both domestic and foreign visitors with its pristine beauty and clear blue water. It is often referred to as the “gem island” of Central Vietnam. If this is your first time coming to the land of “yellow flowers on green grass,” let’s discover what is beautiful about Phu Yen?

1. Introduction to Phu Yen

Nature has bestowed Phu Yen with magnificent terrains for economic development, especially in beach tourism. Plateaus, plains, hills, and valleys are arranged in a diverse landscape in each area of Phu Yen.

The land of “yellow flowers on green grass” carries a characteristic tropical monsoon climate of the country. Due to its coastal location and the influence of the oceanic climate, the temperature in Phu Yen is relatively mild all year round.

Located in the South Central Coast, Phu Yen, together with Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, and other provinces, has created the most beautiful coastal route in Vietnam, running along the S-shaped coastline.

3. When is the best time to visit Phu Yen?

The climate in Phu Yen can be divided into two distinct seasons. To facilitate your travel plans, the ideal time to visit is from around January to August. This is because the rainy season falls between September and December, and the rainy season in Central Vietnam is usually prolonged, making it difficult to visit tourist destinations. In addition, festivals are also a great opportunity for you to learn more about Phu Yen’s cultural specialties.

4. Beautiful places in Phu Yen

Ganh Da Dia

At Ganh Da Dia, tourists are not only attracted by the hexagonal, square, cylindrical, and circular stone slabs layered like honeycombs next to the blue sea and waves, but also by the beautiful Bai Bang beach adjacent to the calm sea and smooth white sand. Furthermore, visitors should not miss the chance to visit the spiritual tomb of the fishermen in Phu Hanh village. While admiring the scenery and relaxing by the beach, do not forget to learn about the geology that led to the formation of the rock slabs stacked on top of each other or the culture of worshipping deities of the fishermen in this area.

Bai Xep

Apart from having a smooth, golden sand beach surrounded by the emerald green of the ocean, Bai Xep also possesses mysterious black stone cliffs. On top of the cliffs, following a winding path, there is a green grassy area with towering cacti, which overlooks the vast sea. Similar to a vast grassland on top of Ganh Xep, tourists will not only appreciate the poetic beauty of the scenery, but also feel the peaceful surroundings of the fishermen of Phu Yen. In particular, it would be wonderful to see children playing and flying kites during the summer afternoons.

Mang Lang Church and Thanh Luong Pagoda

Surrounded by a fishing village, with the sea to the east and the vast sand dunes to the west, Mang Lang Church is a unique place for visitors to explore. The incredible story that visitors should not miss is the tale of the statue of Quan The Am Buddha that washed up from the sea. Moreover, the church’s architecture is also unique as it was constructed using coconut leaves and coral reefs.

O Loan Lagoon

O Loan Lagoon is also a national scenic spot and one of the prime locations for photography enthusiasts. Surrounded by Dong Chay, Cam, and An Hai mountains, O Loan Lagoon is a majestic phoenix stretching toward the vast ocean. Whether you come here at sunrise, with the pink morning light, or at sunset with the warm yellow sunlight behind the mountain, you can capture the breathtaking beauty of nature. Therefore, this destination is also known as “Phu Yen’s dreamy tourist destination.” Do not miss the fascinating legend of the place as well.

5. What are some delicious foods to try and where to find them in Phu Yen?

Bau Da Wine

Famous for the long-standing tradition of making this kind of liquor in the land of martial arts, Binh Dinh province, “Bau Da” is a type of wine that men really love. It’s suitable as a gift for your father, your brother, or your boss. The ingredients for making the wine are made from water and special uncooked rice from a village in Binh Dinh, with a traditional fermentation method. The finished product is carefully stored in beautifully crafted ceramic jars. Although this drink can have an alcohol content of up to 50%, the taste is refreshing, and each sip will create a pleasant, exhilarating feeling.

Cho Huyen Nem

It is wrapped in banana leaves and made into small, eye-catching square shapes. It is usually sold for around 4,000-5,000 VND each. If you want to taste this specialty and buy it as a gift for everyone, you can go to Phu My Market, Dinh Market, Dam Market, Quy Nhon Market, or to Huyen Market, located in Phuoc Loc Commune.

Bigeye Tuna

This is the most famous dish in Phu Yen, and of course, you shouldn’t miss it. Although it’s a little bit fatty for me, it’s still a relatively delicious and unique dish. The price is only about 40k VND. The area where many vendors sell this dish is located on Le Duan Street (parallel to Tuy Hoa coastal road).

Grilled Bigeye Tuna

If you go to the Ba Tam restaurant, you will definitely love this dish. It’s really delicious and cheap.

Phu Yen Chicken Rice

You must try Phu Yen Chicken Rice. The rice here is softer and more fragrant than chicken rice in other provinces that I’ve tried. The best restaurant I’ve found for this dish in Vietnam is Tuyet Nhung (189 Le Thanh Ton, Tuy Hoa). The plate of chicken rice is full of tender and delicious chicken, and the dipping sauce is also excellent. The price for a plate of chicken rice is usually 25k VND, and for thigh meat chicken rice, it’s 35k VND. Remember to pour a little dipping sauce and mix it in with the rice for the best taste.

The restaurant only opens from 6am to 2pm. Additionally, Bao Chau chicken rice (next to Tuy Hoa Market) is also quite delicious.

Oyster Porridge

Eating oyster porridge in the morning while traveling in Phu Yen is excellent. However, the porridge in Phu Yen is different from that in the North. The porridge here is not cooked until the rice is completely mushy and is thinner. You can go to the restaurant at 363 Le Loi to try it. The price for a normal bowl of porridge is 25k VND, and for a special bowl, it’s 30k VND.
